Towles. Printed on Sharpwing Luster
printed with an Epson 2400. Byron won the
Animal/Wildlife category in our 2007 print
contest. Keep your eye out for details on the 2008
contest coming
soon!
Did you use
a profile? I used Hawk Mountain's Epson 2400
profile for Sharpwing Luster. How
long have you been printing? I've been
making my own inkjet prints since 1997, on various Epson
Stylus Photo Printers and numerous manufacturers's
papers, with less than desired success!
How did you
get started? I have been seriously involved
in photography since an Air Force buddy of mine sold me
his Canon 35mm SLR while home on leave in 1971. I was
hooked! I had no interest in computers until I learned
that I could scan my own slides & negatives, and
produce my own prints after years of custom photo lab
prints that really didn't express what I saw through the
lens.
What is your
photographic/digital background? I am
self-taught in both my photographic and computer skills
(with whole a lotta trial & error, I might
add!).
What do you
like or not about your Epson? I've owned
four Epson printers since I started, and the 2400
finally is able to give me color-cast free black &
white prints, due to the three shades of black ink that
it uses. I have only one gripe and it is the necessity
of changing out the Matte & Photo Black cartridges
when printing on matte & glossy paper.
What do you
like or not about Hawk Mountain and our
papers? I've tried papers from many
different manufacturers and have never been more pleased
with the results as I have with Hawk Mountain, including
Epson's own papers. I worked at the NY Public Library on
42nd Street for seventeen years, and during that time I
became friends of a number of people in the conservation
department there and had the importance of good,
acid-free papers drilled into my head very early on! I
feel very confident that Hawk Mountain's papers, in
conjunction with Epson's inksets, will meet all my
expectations for archival printing. And of equal
importance is the service given when I call to place an
order or ask a question. I always feel like I'm talking
to a friend or family member instead of a company that
just wants to make the sale and get on to the next
victim, err, customer! Thank you, Hawk
Mountain!
